WHY AXILLARY SHAVING?
Axillary shaving is often offered to patients who have failed conservative and medical treatments for excessive sweating and body malodor from the armpits. Common effective non-surgical treatments are antiperspirants, anticholinergics, and botulinum toxin injections. The effects of these treatments, however, are not long lasting and require continual usage to prevent symptoms from returning, in additional to their various side effects. Axilliary shaving has proven to be an effective, long-lasting, and minimally invasive surgical treatment for this condition.
HOW IS IT DONE?
The same procedure is often done for different reasons. In Asia, axillary shaving is mainly targeting the apocrine sweat glands that is responsible for the malodorous smell; where as in America, this procedure is almost always done for excessive sweating, which targets the eccrine sweat glands. Surgery involves a small one centimeter incision in a natural crease of the armpit, a revolving shaver then is used to shave off the sweat glands under the skin in the deep dermis and subcutaneous tissue. Procedure time is short and almost painless.
