Fractional CO2 Laser New York City

Introduction to Fractional CO2

Skin is resilient in so many ways, but due to dramatic experiences, age, and environment, there are times when it won’t bounce back as successfully as before. There are many options available these days, but not everyone has the same success in treating their skin conditions. Now, thanks to the development and research of laser treatments in the aesthetic community, things are starting to seem a little brighter for those with previously unsuccessful attempts. At our office conveniently located in Manhattan, the office of William Lao, M.D. offers a revolutionary laser skin resurfacing treatment with Fractional CO2 for our New York City patients. To learn more about the procedure and find out if this is right for you, please keep reading the information we have provided below.

What is Fractional CO2?

Also called ablative CO2, this treatment uses a skin rejuvenation laser that creates healthier and more youthful-looking skin with very minimal downtime. This state-of-the-art laser carefully removes the topmost layers of your skin, eliminating dead and damaged layers, which allows new skin cells to form and creates tighter, younger-looking skin. We can also combine our fractional CO2 laser treatments with other skin care services to complement your results.

Laser skin resurfacing can address a wide range of flaws and imperfections, including:

  • Age spots
  • Dull-looking skin
  • Irregular pigmentation
  • Irregular skin texture
  • Mole removal
  • Sagging
  • Scarring
  • Sun damage
  • Wrinkles
  • Stretch marks (best with RF microneedling)

Who are the Best Candidates for Fractional CO2?

The best candidates for Fractional CO2 laser skin resurfacing in NYC include those who have:

What’s the First Step?

The first step in getting Fractional CO2 laser treatment in NYC is to contact us and schedule your one-on-one consultation with Dr. Lao. During your discussion with him, you will be able to discuss your goals for the treatment and have your questions and concerns addressed. You will be asked about your medical and health history, and receive a personal evaluation from Dr. Lao himself. Be very open and honest with Dr. Lao when discussing your medical history. Everything is confidential, and clarity leads to optimal results, a healthy recovery, and minimal potential for risks or long-term side effects. After reviewing everything and if you and Dr. Lao both feel that this treatment is best for you, he will create a customized procedure plan for you. Our Patient Coordinator will help you schedule your first sessions and provide you with any pre-treatment instructions that you should follow for an optimal experience.

What to Expect on the Day of Fractional CO2

On the day of your treatment, you will come to our New York City office where we will make you comfortable in our reclining chair. Before we begin, the treated areas will be thoroughly washed and dried. To ensure your comfort, topical anesthesia can be applied to your face, although most patients do not require it. If the treatment area is larger, we can offer sedation to ensure you experience no pain.

During treatment, the fractional CO2 laser precisely targets skin imperfections and your tissue will absorb specific wavelengths of the laser’s light, removing the damaged tissue and stimulating healthy tissue underneath. In many cases, laser skin resurfacing will also stimulate collagen production in your body, further promoting the formation of healthy skin. You will feel a warm sensation on the skin, but this is to be expected.

Laser skin resurfacing is a relatively short outpatient procedure. Depending on the size of the area being treated, treatment can take between 30 minutes and two hours.

Fractional CO2 Recovery

Before you leave, we will provide you with thorough post-treatment instructions and what to expect from your recovery process. Most patients see their healed skin within one to two weeks, during which time you can expect some redness and skin sensitivity. Please keep in mind that more dramatic results will require more in-depth treatments, thus making it a longer recovery. During the first 12 to 72 hours, it is completely normal to experience some itching or stinging, along with some swelling.

While your skin is healing, you’ll want to refrain from wearing makeup in the treatment area and avoid hot tubs, steam rooms, and saunas until your skin has fully healed. It’s also important to avoid direct sun exposure following the treatment. If you are in the sun, It is crucial to consistently use a broad-spectrum sunscreen because excessive skin exposure can affect your results. About a week after your laser resurfacing treatment, your skin will likely begin to peel, but DO NOT pick at it! After the initial healing period, you can use oil-free makeup to minimize redness, which may take two or three weeks to fully disappear.

FAQs

Is Fractional CO2 painful?

Most patients do not find the treatment to be painful, but there may be some discomfort due to the warm sensation with the occasional, mild prickling from the laser. We can offer some topical numbing creams for patients who are apprehensive or have more sensitive skin.

How many appointments will I need?

While you may be able to see some positive reactions after your first treatment, most patients with deep wrinkles or bolder scars will require multiple treatments (usually no more than three total). If you do require more than one session, it is recommended to have them spaced two weeks apart.

How long until I see results?

You may be able to enjoy your new results about a week or so after the redness and swelling goes away, but you should expect your optimal results to be visible within three to six months.

Can I combine Fractional CO2 with other procedures?

Our NYC Fractional CO2 patients will often combine their treatment with other skin rejuvenation treatments such as IPL Photofacial, Dermal Fillers, or BOTOX injections. If you have a particular goal in mind or would like to learn more ways to get the most out of your treatment, please mention them during your consultation.
