PDO Thread Lifts

Introduction to PDO Thread Lifts

The effects of age are not always a pleasant experience. Your skin sags, wrinkles are formed, and most people have a “tired” look that makes them appear older than they are. For a long time, a Facelift was the only fix for that problem, thankfully, there is an increasingly popular procedure being offered for those who are apprehensive about surgery. At our office in New York City, Dr. William Lao is giving his patients a more youthful-looking appearance with PDO Thread Lifts.

What are PDO Thread Lifts?

PDO Thread Lifts (also called Polydioxanone) have been used for decades in surgery because of the body’s ability to absorb it without creating much scar tissue. These days, the cosmetic surgery community has been using it to stimulate the face by lifting and provoking the body’s natural healing process, providing a lifting effect that fillers are unable to accomplish.

Threads are implanted in the skin to tighten the face and stimulate the natural regenerative process. When this procedure is performed, the body concentrates large amounts of collagen towards the healing areas, supporting growth factors to influence the health of the skin.

In addition to PDO, Dr. Lao provides additional Thread Lifts as well, such as Lactic Acid threads and Polycaprolactone threads (PCL).

Who are the Best Candidates for PDO Thread Lifts?

While both men and women are excellent candidates for a PDO Thread Lift, if you are interested in this procedure, it’s best if you meet the following criteria:

  • Between the ages of late 20s and early 50s While any adult can get a thread lift, we feel this is the best age range for positive results.
  • Be in good overall physical health
  • Have minimal loose skin in the face and neck area
  • Maintain realistic expectations of the treatment
  • Starting to notice early signs of aging
  • Want to enhance the texture of their skin

What are the Benefits of PDO Thread Lifts?

With over 10 years of experience, Dr. Lao has performed thousands of non-surgical treatments for his New York City patients. Through this exposure, he has been able to recognize the following benefits of a PDO Thread Lift:

  • Increased collagen production provides better support for facial tissue
  • Long-lasting effects (6 months to 1 year)
  • Possess tighter and firmer skin, creating a more youthful appearance
  • Re-defines face contours
  • Results are immediate
  • There is little to no downtime
  • Threads reduce fine lines and wrinkles in the targeted area

What’s the First Step?

The first step to getting PDO Threads in New York City, as with anything, is to educate yourself to ensure that this is the best option for you. It never hurts to do online research, but when you schedule a consultation at our office, you will be able to receive in-depth and factual information from our very knowledgeable and experienced staff.

During this consultation, your face will be examined by Dr. Lao to create the perfect plan for your needs. If you agree with his assessment, he will be able to perform the treatment immediately or schedule another appointment that better fits your time.

To have the best results, minimize recovery time, and reduce the possibility of risks, you must follow our post and pre-treatment instructions.

What to Expect on the Day of PDO Thread Lifts

On the day of your PDO Thread Lift, you will begin by sitting in a chair with your head tilted at an upward angle. Local anesthesia will be administered to you so that you can feel comfortable during your treatment. Micro-needles pre-loaded with the PDO thread will then be inserted into target regions of your face at a subdermal level, parallel to the surface of your skin, and then pull the needle out. The PDO thread will remain under your skin, acting as a scaffolding for support.

The whole procedure typically takes between 30 – 60 minutes.

PDO Thread Lifts Recovery

After your PDO Thread Lift, you will be pleased to know the recovery is very minimal. You might experience some swelling and bruising during the first 24 – 48 hours, but you should be able to immediately return to your daily routine.

During the first week of your recovery, we strongly advise against the urge to rub your face so you won’t accidentally dislodge any threading. It is also recommended that you avoid pursing your lips, smoking, or using a straw for the next few weeks. Avoid any intense workouts, sauna usage, and sleeping on your side. If you use a propped-up pillow, this can help avoid accidentally rolling onto your face while sleeping.

FAQs

Are PDO Thread Lifts painful?

Some of our patients have expressed experiencing some mild pain during the procedure, but the “pain” is similar to any other injectable treatment with dermal fillers.

How many appointments will I need?

Most patients only require 1 treatment for their PDO Threadlift. You should only require an additional appointment if a thread breaks unexpectedly.

How long until I see results?

The average PDO Thread Lift will last around 12 months, but the results can vary depending on age, lifestyle, and physiology. Our younger patients usually see longer-lasting results (between 1 to 2 years), while our older patients may only notice shorter results (around 6 months to 1 year) due to either poor skin volume or elasticity that comes naturally with aging.

Can I combine PDO Thread Lifts with other procedures?

PDO Threads work very well in conjunction with other procedures such as BOTOX or Fillers to improve your facial structure, or IPL Photofacial treatments for skin tightening, removing sunspots, or other conditions.

What are the risks associated with PDO Thread Lifts?

One of the many benefits of PDO Thread Lifts is that it has a much lower risk of complications than a surgical facelift, but there is still a minimal chance of potential complications, such as:
  • Local Anesthesia risks
  • Difficulty opening your mouth (usually temporary)
  • Dimpling (orange peel-like skin texture, usually temporary)
