Fat Grafting New York City

Introduction

Fat grafting is the hottest topic in plastic surgery in recent years. Used properly, it is one of the best materials to improve contour deformity and volumize the face and body. At our practice in NYC, fat grafting is frequently asked about. Changes in aging are three-dimensional. Gravity pulls everything down in the vertical direction but tissues also undergo atrophy in the horizontal dimension. In the long run, these issues can cause a loss of volume, saggy skin, and a much older look overall. In cases such as these Dr. William Lao has helped many patients reclaim their youthful aesthetic with a cosmetic procedure known as fat grafting.

Dr. William Lao is a top plastic surgeon specializing in fat grafting in NYC.

What is Fat Grafting?

Fat grafting is a cosmetic procedure that involves taking fat from one area of the body to fill in lost volume in another. It is an advanced technique designed to restore the lost volume that occurs with aging. The most commonly used places for that reason are the face, breasts, hands, or feet.

Who are the Best Candidates for Fat Grafting?

Fat grafting is an excellent option for those experiencing the changes caused by the aging process and who want to improve the contours of their bodies without having to undergo a highly invasive surgical procedure. Depending on their cultural preference, younger people can also benefit from the volume augmentation provided by fat graftings such as buttock augmentation and breast augmentation. Ideal candidates for fat grafting should have an adequate amount of excess fat that can be removed from one area of the body and used on another.

What are the Benefits of Fat Grafting?

Many of Dr. Lao’s patients have seen the benefits of fat grafting, such as:

  • Fills in wrinkles

  • Increases definition in desired areas

  • Improves your skin

  • Less chance of allergic reaction

  • Removes unwanted fat

What’s the First Step?

If you are interested in a Fat Grafting procedure, your first step is to call us and schedule a consultation with Dr. Lao. During this private consultation, you will be able to discuss your aesthetic goals as well as go over any questions or concerns you may have.

What to Expect on the Day of Fat Grafting

Fat grafting is a procedure that can potentially “kill two birds with one stone.” Liposuction is performed in places of the body where fat is not wanted, ie. flanks, abdomen, inner and outer thighs. This fat is then processed and transferred to areas where volume is desired, like the face, nose, breasts, buttocks, hands, and feet.

Fat Grafting Recovery

Your recovery time will vary depending on the amount of fat that has been removed and how large of an area needed to be covered. In most case scenarios, you can expect a recovery period of around 48 hours after your procedure. During this time, you will notice that you start to feel more awake and your body will begin its physical restoration. You will also recognize your ability to move around more freely and resume more of your normal activities. During a longer-term recovery, it could take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks. We do recommend that you take off the first few weeks of work during this time during your recovery, however, less time may be needed depending on the intensity of your procedure. You should be fully recovered after around four to six weeks after your procedure has been completed, with more intense procedures taking up to four months. You should make and attend follow-up appointments based on the schedule provided to you by Dr. Lao. Following this plan will ensure that you are recovering properly and that there are no additional issues that should be addressed.
