AviClear New York City

Introduction to AviClear

Growing up, one of the most embarrassing things to experience is having an excessive amount of acne. While kids can be cruel, there’s at least some solace in knowing that the older you get, the less severe your acne will become, eventually disappearing completely. Well, somewhere along the way, nobody mentioned that acne can still affect you well into adulthood – some people much worse than others. There are plenty of skin maintenance options out there, but unfortunately, not all of them work to eradicate acne, and even worse, some treatments don’t work with certain skin type. This means that while patients with a lighter complexion may be able to use laser treatments to reduce and remove their acne, darker-skinned patients are out of luck.

Thankfully, that’s all changed with AviClear laser acne treatments in NYC. Rather than targeting melanin, this revolutionary treatment only hones in on sebaceous glands that produce the oily substance causing you to break out. Dr. William Lao offers this laser acne treatment to all of his NYC patients as a spectacular way of improving their skin’s appearance.

What is AviClear?

AviClear is a one-of-a-kind treatment as the world’s first FDA-approved energy device used to treat mild to severe acne while minimizing the potential for future breakouts in as little as three monthly treatments. It targets and heats the skin, specifically the sebaceous glands, and it helps to suppress the production of sebum.

When your body produces excess sebum, all kinds of skin complications can occur, especially on the face, eventually clogging your pores and leading to varying levels of acne. Bacteria also feed on excess sebum, which causes inflammation in the pores and creates acne. Overall, AviClear aims to reduce these happenings while improving the quality of your skin in the long run.

The handheld device uses a 1726 nm wavelength to cure acne at the source by selectively targeting and suppressing the oily substance on your skin without the use of topical or oral acne medications. AviClear utilizes contact cooling to provide a more comfortable patient experience and to produce safe and optimal results.

Who are the Best Candidates for AviClear (Laser Acne Treatment)?

Since AviClear is designed to treat all types of mild to severe acne (e.g., cystic, inflammatory, and hormonal), this procedure is great for anyone struggling with acne, setting AviClear apart from so many other laser acne treatments offered in NYC. Age is a non-factor, too, so teens and older adults alike can opt for AviClear.

We believe that some characteristics that make a good AviClear candidate include:

  • Committed to maintaining a good skin-cleaning regimen
  • In good overall health
  • Keeps a positive attitude throughout their sessions and during recovery
  • Maintains realistic expectations for treatment results

What are the Benefits of AviClear?

Some of the benefits that Dr. Lao has witnessed his NYC AviClear patients enjoy include:

  • Clearer skin
  • Improved self-esteem
  • The procedure is comfortable and safe
  • Very minimal to no downtime
  • Works on all skin types and tones

AviClear has also been able to help treat cystic acne, which often poses more problems than more common types of acne. You will require more than one AviClear treatment before results are truly noticeable, but there are so many people who can feel relief knowing that there is a viable solution for their cystic acne. The effectiveness of this treatment will also look different based on the severity of each patient’s skin condition.

What’s the First Step?

The first step in achieving acne-free skin in NYC is to contact the office of Dr. William Lao and schedule your AviClear consultation. When you come into our office for your appointment, you will sit down with Dr. Lao and discuss all aspects of the treatment, including your aesthetic goals, ask questions about AviClear, and receive an examination of your skin and current acne situation. Dr. Lao will also ask you about your medical and lifestyle history to make the most informed decisions possible and prevent unnecessary risks, so it’s very important to be open and honest with him.

Once he has all of the information he needs, Dr. Lao will create your treatment plan, and if you agree with it, our Patient Coordinator will help you schedule your first treatment session. You may also be provided with some general directions on how to achieve the most out of your AviClear treatments, including basic skin care routines.

What to Expect on the Day of Laser Acne Treatment Using AviClear

When you come into our office for your appointment, your skin will first be cleansed off for a safe and unobstructed treatment. Dr. Lao will then apply the laser directly to the acne-affected areas, during which time you may feel a slight warming sensation as the laser works to target the oil glands.

There is no numbing (i.e. anesthetic) required as the laser is equipped with a special skin cooling technology to minimize discomfort, however, we can offer it if you’re extremely sensitive to the procedure.

Each treatment will take about 30 minutes to perform.

After your treatment, you can return to your normal routine, but you should do your best to avoid unprotected sunlight, as your skin will be sensitive to UV rays. You can expect some mild symptoms such as inflammation and redness to occur, but they should fade within a few minutes. Your acne may also flare up for a few days after treatment. You may continue to use any prescription acne medications simultaneously.

You can expect to see a reduction in acne breakouts as well as an improvement in the overall appearance of your skin after your first session, but for best results, we recommend a series of three treatments with your optimal results being seen after the completion of the full series. To get the most out of your results, you must keep up with a proper and diligent skincare routine as recommended by Dr. Lao.

While the AviClear treatment doesn’t offer lifelong permanent results, it is widely considered by many medical professionals to be semi-permanent. Most results can last for a few years before a follow-up session is needed. Every patient will see a difference in the longevity of their results, but many of our patients are absolutely satisfied with their results.

How Much Does AviClearCost in New York City?

The cost of Laser Acne Treatment Using AviClear in New York City will vary depending on your individual needs and how many sessions you will require to clear up your acne, among other factors. When you come in for your consultation and Dr. Lao can have a better understanding of what your skin will require, he will be able to create your treatment plan which will allow our Patient Coordinator to provide you with a breakdown of the pricing.

Please understand that most insurance companies will not cover any cost of the treatment as it is still considered an “elective treatment”. If you have any concerns about the AviClear treatment prices, Dr. Lao offers financing options through CareCredit. If this is something you are interested in, please feel free to fill out an application through our website or speak with our Patient Coordinator before you leave.

Is AviClear painful?

Thanks to the contact cooling aspect of the treatment, most patients do not find the treatments to be painful. There have been reports of patients feeling a “snapping” sensation, but it’s typically very subtle. While patients with larger pimples that go deeper into their dermis may feel a bit more discomfort than those with more mild cases of acne, many of our patients do not require any pain mitigation during their treatments. If you are concerned about pain from the treatment, please inform Dr. Lao during your consultation so that he can discuss the different options to alleviate your experience.

How many appointments will I need?

Every patient has different needs based on their skin, but on average, you can expect about three treatment sessions spaced about a month apart. Please keep in mind that patients with more severe acne will probably require a few additional treatments. Dr. Lao will give you a better idea of how many he thinks you will need and will always let you know when he would like for you to return.

How long until I see results?

It’s been reported that roughly 87% of patients who receive AviClear are satisfied and able to see a noticeable difference after only one session! That being said, we strongly recommend a series of three treatments to see more optimal results, which means you should be able to enjoy clearer skin in about three months from your first session.

Can I combine AviClear with other procedures?

Yes! While you may need to stagger your actual treatments, BOTOX pairs very well with AviClear for a more youthful and voluminous face in addition to clear skin. If you have any sort of aesthetic goals but are unsure how to achieve them, please mention them to Dr. Lao during your consultation and he will be able to provide you with his expert opinions on how to obtain the appearance that you want!

What are the risks associated with AviClear?

Unlike other acne treatments, such as Isotretinoin, there are practically zero risks associated with AviClear. That being said, there are still some complications associated with the treatment, which include:
  • Mild, short-term acne flare up
  • Reddened skin
If you end up experiencing any concerning or long-lasting reactions following your treatment, please contact our office immediately.
