Lip fillers (Lip Injections) in NYC
Dermal Fillers are a great way to give your lips more volume and plumpness. They are also a great way to smoothen any wrinkles, restore your previous lip size, or correct the shape of your lips.
During a Lip Injection, a topical anesthetic will be applied to your lips, numbing the area so the process will be as comfortable as possible. Dr. Lao will then use a thin needle to inject the filler into any or all parts of your lips. While you won’t feel any pain, you may experience a slight pinching sensation, which may cause discomfort in some patients. When the injections are complete, you will be given an ice pack to minimize swelling and bruising. This procedure will take as little as 30 minutes or as long as 2 hours. Lip Fillers typically last between 12 and 18 months, however, depending on your age and metabolism, that time may be less.
What to Expect on the Day of Dermal Fillers
When you come into Dr. Lao’s office for your Dermal Fillers, he will begin by evaluating your facial appearance and skin tone, examining the areas that will need to be augmented. He may mark strategic points on your face where he intends to place the injection. There may also be photographs taken before you are treated.
The injection sites will then be cleaned and sanitized with an antibacterial agent. A cold compress may be utilized to numb the injection sites to cause you less pain or discomfort, as well as either an anesthetic ointment applied or an injection of local anesthesia. Dr. Lao will then inject the site(s) with the filler – this will only take a few moments per site. Once the injections are finished, the areas will be gently massaged and evaluated, with additional filler added if needed.
Finally, any markings will be cleaned off and you may be offered an ice pack to reduce any swelling and alleviate discomfort. The whole process can last anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour.
Dermal Fillers Recovery
The recovery time from a Dermal Filler procedure will vary from patient to patient, as well as which type of filler was used. You can typically resume most activities as soon as you leave Dr. Lao’s office, but we do recommend avoiding intense physical activity for the first 24-48 hours to help prevent any additional swelling or bruising.
After receiving dermal fillers, you may have an initial appearance of swelling or bruising, an “overfilled” look, temporary numbness or redness, palpable lumps near the injection site, or hypersensitivity. These conditions will dissipate over time and can be alleviated with topical icing and gentle massage. When your fat is used as an injection filler, you may experience a longer healing process that can take up to a few weeks.
