WHY UPPER EYELID BLEPHAROPLASTY?

Upper eyelid blepharoplasty is one of the most common procedures in cosmetic surgery both in the West and the East. The population of people who desire upper blepharoplasty varies in wide range of age.

For the older individuals, eye often is the tell-tale sign of aging. Combining forehead and brow sagging and skin loosening, excess skin develops hooding over the eyelid margin and in a severe case can block the superior vision. Upper eyelid blepharoplasty reverses the aged look by removing the excess skin and herniated fat and can improve the visual field.

In younger individuals, especially in the Asian population, the double fold on the upper eyelid is considered a sign of beauty. However, depending on the genetics and the country of origin, this double fold only occurs naturally in less than 50% of the population. In order to achieve this desired look, upper eyelid blepharoplasty is required to create the double fold. Also in the Asian population, congenital ptosis of upper eyelid is common and blepharoplasty can create the double fold and correct the droopy eyelid at the same time.

HOW IS IT DONE?

Many techniques are available. The two main categories are incisional and non-incisional blepharoplasty. Non-incisional procedure is more appropriate for younger individuals who do not have much excess skin and fat; whereas incisional blepharoplasty is often required for older patients with excess skin. The final decision should be individualized after discussing with a plastic surgeon.

PATIENTS’ REVIEWS

D, 57, retired police officer, Queens, USA

“I feel very blessed and fortunate to have had the opportunity to meet such a talented young Doctor. I am a 57 year old female. In December 2014, I had a facial procedure done. My eyelids top & bottom and face were lifted. I am 100% satisfied with the results. People see me and they say I look 10 years younger. My confidence level is off the charts. I can’t say enough about Dr. William Lao. He was kind, considerate, compassionate and caring. We had open communication through emails & telephone calls. I felt very comfortable with Dr. Lao, considering I interviewed 8 different plastic surgeons. Dr. Lao, is a graduate of Johns Hopkins Medical School which is one of the finest institutions in the world. Dr. Lao I will be forever grateful. Thank you.”
