BOTOX® New York City

Introduction to BOTOX

If you’ve been concerned about wrinkles on your forehead or your face, you’re not alone. BOTOX® is the most Googled non-surgical treatment in the United States, with thousands of people looking it up every day, and celebrities and influencers being more vocal about the aesthetic work they’ve done. At our boutique plastic surgery practice in New York City, BOTOX® and other wrinkle relaxers such as Dysport and Xeomin are some of the most common non-surgical treatments we perform. Below, we’ve included more information on the different treatments, along with some frequently asked questions. Our NYC BOTOX® patients find that the quick and easy treatment greatly benefits their lives by producing more self-confidence in the way they look and photograph.

What is BOTOX®?

BOTOX® is a drug that is made from a toxin produced by a bacteria called Clostridium Botulinum. Used in small doses, BOTOX® is a great tool for treating certain health problems. The injection works by weakening or paralyzing certain muscles, or by blocking certain nerves.

Who are the Best Candidates for a BOTOX®?

BOTOX® is a fantastic and quick treatment for many patients who are looking for ways to enhance their appearance, regain a youthful look, or treat certain medical conditions. It’s very important that you maintain realistic goals for your appearance and be in overall good health. We do not recommend BOTOX® for those who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have a neurological disease. You should also avoid receiving BOTOX® if you have an allergy to cow’s milk protein.

What are the Benefits of BOTOX®?

As one of the leading aesthetic practices in New York, Dr. Lao has seen his patients benefit from the use of BOTOX®. Below, we’ve included some of the advantages.

  • Temporary smoothing of facial & forehead wrinkles
  • More self-confidence in the way you look and photograph
  • Blepharospasm (uncontrollable blinking)
  • Flattening/minimizing shoulder trapezius muscle mass (gives a less masculine shoulder contour)
  • Shrinkage of Masseter muscles to give a more V-shaped face
  • Treatment for Bruxism and related headaches (teeth grinding)
  • Severe Underarm or palm Sweating
  • Smoothening of lower leg muscles (by shrinking the prominent portions of gastroc muscles)

What’s the First Step?

The first step to getting BOTOX® in NYC with Dr. William Lao or Dr. Nao is to book a consultation. During your appointment, one of the doctors will want to meet with you to further educate you on the treatment and answer any questions you might have.

If you’re comfortable with our recommendations, the treatment can be done right there on the spot. It’s important to be very upfront with your expectations as that will help lead to optimal results with your BOTOX®.

What to Expect on the Day of BOTOX

Before your appointment, you should consider avoiding alcohol consumption at least 1 week beforehand and stop taking aspirin or anti-inflammatory medications 2 weeks before your treatment to help prevent bruising. When you show up at our office to receive your BOTOX® injection, Dr. Lao will use a tiny needle to inject small amounts of the BOTOX® into the targeted area. There is no need for anesthesia during the procedure, however, you may feel some minor discomfort due to the insertion of the needle.

What other Wrinkle Relaxers Do We Offer?

Two other very common wrinkle relaxers are Xeomin and Dysport. Below, we’ve included information about each of them. During your appointment, we’ll be able to explain which we feel is the best solution for your needs.

Xeomin in NYC

Typically, Xeomin is used in similar areas as BOTOX®. Most patients utilize it in the frown lines, forehead, around the eyes, on the chin, and near the lips. The biggest difference between Xeomin and BOTOX® is that it doesn’t use any inactive protein. Depending on your skin type and aesthetic goals, our doctors might recommend Xeomin, but it will be best discussed during your consultation.

Dysport in NYC

There are minor differences between BOTOX and Dysport. In general, Dysport is often used on the forehead and larger areas of the face, where BOTOX is more frequently used on smaller areas on the face. Dysport is diluted more than BOTOX, due to it using smaller protein molecules—this makes for a desirable & smooth finish. .

BOTOX® Recovery

During our recovery period, you should try to avoid rubbing the injection site for at least 24 hours so you don’t spread the BOTOX® to other areas. You may also be advised to stay upright for 4 hours after you receive the shots, as well as take a day off from exercising. The effects of BOTOX® can last anywhere between 3 and 6 months. As your muscle action slowly returns, wrinkle lines will begin to reappear and, should you choose to, need to be treated again. These lines and wrinkles can sometimes appear less severe over time because your muscles are shrinking.

Why Choose Dr. Lao?

By choosing William Lao, MD Plastic Surgery for your BOTOX® or other specialty wrinkle relaxers, you’re selecting a practice that is run and operated by a double-board certified plastic surgeon. While many medical spas offer BOTOX®, they don’t have the expertise or skill that Dr. Lao possesses. Not only is Dr. Lao is a proud member of the Amerian Society of Plastic Surgeons and a New Beauty Top Doc, but he’s also reached Expert Injector status, an award given to under 30 medical practices in New York City.

How Much Does BOTOX® Cost in New York City?

The cost of BOTOX® in NYC will vary on a number of factors. Most importantly, how much you’re getting and where the injections are going. The best way to get the most accurate cost will be to schedule a consultation. During your appointment, we’ll be able to give our expert recommendations on how much is needed and where.
